SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon took to the stage this morning knowing that the SNP, according to recent polling, could be the third largest UK party after May 7th.
As such the tone of the launch was upbeat looking to appeal not just to people living in Scotland but to show that the SNP would represent the interests of voters across the UK in Westminster to bring ‘progressive change’.
There were strong messages to fight against Westminster austerity measures and fight in favour of increased spending to public services. Opponents from Scottish Labour, Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats were quick to point out that Nicola Sturgeon did not rule out pressing for another referendum on independence.
Sturgeon, who as First Minister of Scotland, is not standing to be an MP has said her party will not prop up a Conservative government and continues to pressure Ed Miliband about any deal. Mr. Miliband has said no to a coalition with the SNP but has not formally ruled out any other political arrangements should Labour be the largest party.
