Prince George of Cambridge is the son of the Prince and Princess of Wales and second in line to the throne after his father, Prince William.
Prince George’s father is Prince William. William is the eldest son of the late Princess Diana and King Charles III. He is first in line to the throne or the heir apparent.
Prince George’s mother is Catherine, Princess of Wales. Catherine ‘Kate’ Middleton met William at the University of St Andrew’s and they married in 2011.
In 2012 the royal couple announced that they were expecting a child. In response, it was declared that the line of succession would be changed to allow either a boy or a girl to succeed the throne. It was not known until the Prince’s birth whether they were expecting a boy or a girl. Catherine was admitted to hospital in the early stages of her pregnancy with chronic morning sickness but otherwise appeared to have a healthy time whilst expecting.
The HRH Prince George of Cambridge was born at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington London on July 22 2013; the same hospital as his father and uncle. He was born at 4.24pm weighing 8lbs 6oz after a natural birth. This was announced to an eagerly awaiting press and public through a press release and following tradition an Easel announcing the birth was placed inside the gates of Buckingham Palace. Hundreds flocked to the Palace on a hot July night to celebrate and be part of history. There was also a gun salute in London and other Commonwealth countries.
His full name was announced the day after as George Alexander Louis.
Due to the line of succession, he replaced his uncle Prince Harry as third in line to the throne, after his father, Prince William, and grandfather, then Prince Charles.
